How We List Providers
We're transparent about how provider listings are sourced, verified, and presented — so you can decide what to trust and what to confirm directly with providers.
What We Publish
Public Information
Listings are built from publicly available information including:
- Provider websites
- Google Business profiles
- Public business directories
- Phone numbers and contact information
- Service areas and locations
We summarize information neutrally rather than copying provider marketing language.
Provider Updates
Business owners can claim their listing to:
- Verify business ownership
- Update description and details
- Add services offered
- Manage service areas and locations
- Add contact information and links
When a listing is claimed, that status is shown on the provider page.
Last-Reviewed Date
Every provider listing shows when information was most recently verified against the provider's public sources. This helps you understand how current the information is.
We encourage you to confirm all details directly with providers before making any decisions.
Verification Status
Provider listings show verification status including:
- Unclaimed: Business information from public sources; provider has not yet verified the listing
- Claimed: A representative has verified business ownership and manages the listing
- Verified: Business ownership has been confirmed through our verification process
What We Don't Publish
We deliberately leave certain things out so you can make thoughtful decisions during a difficult time.
No Reviews or Rankings of Our Own
We do not collect user reviews, write our own ratings, or rank providers numerically. Where available, we display a provider's existing Google rating and review count, sourced directly from Google and linked to their Google listing — we don't edit, moderate, or curate these. Provider quality is best evaluated through direct communication and personal research.
No Fake Guarantees
We don't guarantee availability, pricing, service hours, or specific offerings. Provider details can change. We strongly encourage you to contact providers directly to confirm all information before making a decision.
No Misleading Badges
We don't add generic "verified," "trusted," or "recommended" badges that aren't backed by something concrete and current. Verification status reflects specific, verifiable actions (like claim ownership or business verification).
Clear Labeling of Preferred Listings
Some providers pay for "Preferred" status on Pet Farewell Finder. These listings are clearly marked with a crown icon and "Preferred" badge so you know they're a paid placement. Preferred status does not affect how we rank providers in organic search results.
How Provider Order Works
Providers are organized by factors that matter when you're making an important decision:
Distance & Service Area
Providers serving your location appear first, organized by proximity.
Verification Status
Verified providers (business ownership confirmed) appear above unverified listings, giving you transparency about what's been confirmed.
Profile Completeness
Providers with more complete information (description, services, contact details) are easier to evaluate.
Service Match
Providers offering the specific services you're searching for appear first.
Important: Preferred providers appear in a separate section at the top. This paid placement does not affect organic rankings below.
What We Do to Maintain Accuracy
- ✓Track when provider information was last verified
- ✓Allow providers to claim and update their listings
- ✓Accept corrections and updates from providers and users
- ✓Remove listings for closed or non-operating businesses
- ✓Flag outdated information for review and updating
- ✓Clearly distinguish between claimed, verified, and unclaimed listings
When You're Comparing Providers
We recommend you consider:
- →Services offered: Do they provide the specific care you're looking for (in-home, hospice, cremation, etc.)?
- →Service area: Do they serve your location and have availability?
- →Verification status: Has business ownership been confirmed?
- →Contact them directly: Confirm pricing, availability, and answer your specific questions.
- →Ask for references: Many providers are happy to share client experiences.
- →Trust your instincts: Choose someone you feel comfortable with during this important decision.
